Bridport Win opening game of the season

A confident Bridport team opened the season with a strong performance to secure a win over Newton Abbot Spurs. This performance shows why the team is optimistic this season now the new management structure has had a really good pre-season and the signs were there at the back end of last season.

This was the first game sponsored by Clocktower Records and the new home kit looks really smart. Roy and Simon from the crew were there to cheer along the team and the attendance was really good for this opening game with over 263 supporters showing up on a windy day for the game from both sides.

Bridport started well with an electric pace from our forward players. The work paid off when Soloman Ayunga put the Spurs keeper under pressure forcing the error and we got the tally started.

We managed to net another well-worked goal before halftime scored by Tom Richardson, despite some good counterattacks from Spurs where their wing players caught us a few times. Our defence recovered well and we certainly can say we won the first half.

HT 2-0

We started the second half well again and secured another goal by George Calverley which continued the momentum we had. Newton Abbot worked hard though and played their way back into the game. An unlucky rebound from our keeper’s clearance ended in a goal and the Spurs saw an opportunity. The Spurs laid siege to our defense for the remaining part of the game. scoring another with about 8 mins on the clock plus extra time still to play. The Clocktower team was feeling the pressure hoping the team will see the game out with a win and reward for their hard work. A few chances came close for Spurs but we held our nerve, dug in, and played out the win. Well done to the team for a great result. Well done to Newton Abbot Spurs also for making this an exciting and nervous game for home supporters.

FT 3-2

Match Day Programme Focus Player Loves Busted (apparently!)

We love our music at Clocktower Records and noticed in the Matchday programme that the player focus was on Riley Weedon. In his profile he lists Busted as his favorite pop group.

Did you know

Busted is a British pop rock band that gained popularity in the early 2000s. The group was formed in 2000 and originally consisted of three members: James Bourne, Matt Willis, and Charlie Simpson. Busted is known for their catchy and energetic music, often blending elements of pop and rock. They quickly rose to fame with their debut self-titled album in 2002, which featured hits like “What I Go to School For,” “Year 3000,” and “You Said No.”

In terms of their connection to football, Busted has had a couple of notable links to the sport:

  1. Sport Relief Single (2004): Busted recorded the official song for Sport Relief in 2004. The song, titled “Air Hostess,” was released as a single to raise funds for the charity. While not directly related to football, this event showcased the band’s involvement in supporting charitable initiatives connected to sports.

  2. Performances at Football Events: Busted has performed at various football-related events and festivals over the years. Their energetic and crowd-pleasing performances have made them a popular choice for entertainment at gatherings and festivals associated with the sport.

So if you are a keen music fan and fancy a Busted album, or perhaps one from our thousands of other records, c.d’s and cassettes then head over to Clocktower Records.
