Metropolis – Featuring live soundtrack from Palooka 5- Sponsored by Clocktower Records – Saturday 4th May – Bridport Arts Centre

To accompany ‘Metropolis’ ‘sci fi surf’ band Palooka 5 will providing a ‘live soundtrack’ to Lang’s classic.

Roy Gregory from Clocktower Records explains : “We’re really excited to be bringing Palooka 5 to this special screening of Metropolis. Palooka 5 are Clocktower Records regulars and one of the highlights of our year-round events. They always bring eye-catching innovative enjoyment and are a favourite with audiences. Their profile has grown over recent years with record releases, BBC Radio 6 appearances and festivals. This live performance, written and performed by Palooka 5 as a soundtrack to the sci-fi classic Metropolis, will have a limited number of outings and will be a unique Festival Fringe event which should not be missed.”

Page to Screen present Fritz Lang’s 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent classic ‘Metropolis’ (1984 cut – 1hr 20mins) . The plot sees Metropolis as a home to a Utopian society where its wealthy residents live a carefree life. One of those is Freder Fredersen. One day, he spots a beautiful woman with a group of children, she and the children quickly disappear. Trying to follow her, he is horrified to find an underground world of workers who apparently run the machinery that keeps the Utopian world above ground functioning. What can Freder do to stop this horror…

To open the evening there will be a screening Georges Méliès 1902 science fiction adventure ‘Impossible Voyage’ with a ‘live’ DJ soundtrack from Lee Grimshaw head of the Spinout Nuggets Record label.
